The Clan O’Bryan across two eras: The bunch of young kids, then my grandparent’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.
My grandpa, James Bennett O’Bryan, went by Bennett — my middle name too. This is an awesome photo with the kid and the bike. I think the kid is my dad’s older brother and my uncle, Joe O’Bryan.
My Grandma Ruth, most of her grandkids called her Mom-mom, with probably her son James and her mom and dad. She was a Pope who married an O’Bryan.
Me. Probably 1982. Chicago’s south side. Attending Gage Park High School. That’s not my hair being super long, but rather the top of George Ferraro’s head as he’s standing in the alley behind my house. See the swimming pool in the background? Belonged to Ed Meadows, also known famously as, “The Shmed.”
My grandpa and grandma Jerry and Aline Kite, in 1943, with their children Joann and Nancy (my Mom.) Aline would have been in the photo below as Mryadell’s younger sister, but she hadn’t been born yet.
Parker Holderby and Lota Mae Law, with their first child Myradell, who is my grandmother Aline’s older sister. I called her Auntie Marty when I was just a little tater tot.
A salute to Veterans. My great uncle, Darrell Pope, a staff sergeant in Italy in 1945, along with a letter he wrote to his sister and brother-in-law living on 71st and Wentworth in Chicago.
George and Joann Forsythe, my mother’s sister and brother-in-law, who are, in part, the inspiration for this project. They’re quite fond of the water, photographed some years ago somewhere, and then again here in Olympia, Washington while visiting in September 2009.
